Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments (AEPA) and National Evaluation Series (NES)

What are the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments and the National Evaluation Series?

The AEPA and NES assessments are offered for professional knowledge and subject knowledge tests which are required for most teaching certificates. Comparable out-of-state tests may be substituted for these assessments.  Visit the ADE website at http://www.azed.gov/educator-certification/certificate-requirement/ to view accepted out-of-state tests.

Who is required to take the tests?
A professional knowledge test is required of all applicants for a teaching certificate. There are three levels of the Professional Knowledge test: Early Childhood (AEPA 93), NES Assessment of Professional Knowledge Elementary (051) and NES Assessment of Professional Knowledge Secondary (052).

Subject Knowledge Tests
Candidates must take a test in the specific area in which they are seeking certification if a test is offered in that area.
