Salida del Sol Student Wins Success Story Award

Peter Bravo, a 4th grade student in Mrs. Delanie Rouff's class at Salida del Sol Elementary School, has been recognized as one of four students in the state to receive an Arizona Student Success Story award.

Unique Populations at the Arizona Department of Education invited Arizona educators to nominate eligible students who had made noteworthy accomplishments and academic achievement to be considered as a recipient of the Arizona Student Support Story award at the HOPE Conference 2021. Unique Populations is comprised of Foster Care Education, Homeless Education, Migrant Education, and OELAS. Eligible students need to have been past or current recipients of services in those listed areas.

Peter and the other winners of the 2021 Arizona Student Success Stories award will be honored in December at a banquet held during the HOPE Conference 2021 in Tucson. Each award winner will have the opportunity to personally share their success story with banquet guests. Teachers, family, and administrators are also invited to be in attendance. The students’ stories will be shared on the Unique Populations website, along with students selected as Honorable Mention recipients for this award.

Mrs. Delanie Rouff wanted to nominate her student based on his efforts and positive attitude in the classroom. She provided the selection committee with an example of Peter's work, a poem based on identity.

Poem: I Am

By Peter Bravo

I am Unique and Strong.

I wonder if I will have a successful life.

I hear the pain of my mom working hard.

I see my future.

I want to be a doctor.

I am Unique and Strong.

I feel success in my life.

I worry about my mom getting crashed by a car again.

I cry about my mom going to the hospital.

I am Unique and Strong.

I understand my family cannot afford a new house.

I say everything will get better once I’m a doctor.

I dream to have a better life soon enough.

I try to get the best grades.

I hope I can help my family.

I am Unique and Strong.

Congratulations, Peter, on your accomplishment. We're so proud of you and we know you will accomplish your goals and dreams. As a Kid at Hope, we know you are talented, smart, and capable of success.
