TITLE: Director of Transportation
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent training required.
2. Five years managerial experience in transportation preferred.
3. Meet all requirements for driving a school bus in the state of Arizona.
REPORTS TO:
Executive Director of Management Services
SUPERVISES:
Bus drivers, mechanics, transportation aides, and substitutes.
JOB GOAL:
Directs and supervises the safe, efficient, orderly transport of students between their homes and schools, to and from special functions and activities; and the effective repair and maintenance of transportation vehicles and equipment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, directs, and supervises the operations and activities of the District's transportation department including the establishment of routes; scheduling and transport of students to and from school, special functions and activities; control of student conduct in buses; driver training; and the proper repair and maintenance of all of the District's equipment.
2. Prepares and recommends transportation department capital, operating budgets, and controls expenditures within approved budgets.
3. Establishes operating practices and procedures to ensure conformance to federal and state rules and regulations regarding pupil transportation.
4. Investigates and resolves complaints about transportation services and driver conduct.
5. Takes a leading role in investigating and recommending courses of action in student disciplinary problems that could result in suspension of pupil transportation privileges.
6. Monitors transportation operations for conformance to established policies and practices.
7. Selects, trains and evaluates departmental staff.
8. Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Management Team.
9. Prepares short and long range plans for the operation and capital acquisition of the transportation department.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve month work year, salary and benefits as established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Evaluation of this job shall be done by the Executive Director of Management Services in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of management personnel.
