TITLE:          Adult Education Instructor (Adult Basic Education/Family Literacy Program)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

 

1.         Valid Arizona Adult Basic Education certificate required.

 

2.         Bilingual required.

 

3.         Two (2) years experience in working with adult education students preferred.

 

REPORTS TO:

Director, Federal Programs

 

JOB GOAL:

 

To support the educational growth of adults in a family literacy setting while their preschool children prepare for kindergarten in the preschool component of the program.  To provide parenting skills to each family appropriate to their individual needs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.         Plans, meets and instructs a program of adult basic education, ESL or GED training that   meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of each adult student.

 

2.         Plans and coordinates assignments for the teacher aides and volunteer(s).

 

3.         Responsible for the required assessment and evaluation of student progress.

 

4.         Prepares lesson plans that integrate all components to include preschool, home visits,         health issues.

 

5.         Meets with family literacy staff members to coordinate services for each family on a          weekly basis.

 

6.         Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and  established   clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.

 

7.         Established volunteer positions throughout the campus for the parents to encourage           parental involvement in school.

 

 

8.         Acts as liaison to various community organizations and agencies to assist families in          need.

 

9.         Maintains contact with each parent to promote interest and participation in all aspects of   the program.

 

10.       Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the District’s philosophy of education       and instructional goals and objectives.

 

11.       Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media that promotes an environment      that is interesting and challenging for the adult.

 

12.       Encourages parents to set and maintain standards of classroom participation.

 

13.       Coordinates appropriate field trips for the parents in coordination with the preschool         teacher.

 

14.       Refers families to the program nurse when any medical condition or social service referral is needed to assist the family.

 

15.       Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Work year, salary and benefits as established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:

 

Evaluation of this job shall be performed by the principal/qualified evaluator in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified/classified personnel.
