Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a safe and restful summer. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ashlee Kimber and this is the beginning of my seventh year of teaching. This will be my third year at Mesquite Elementary. I went to school at Eastern Michigan University and graduated with my bachelor’s in education with a major in Reading. I am currently attending Grand Canyon University for my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. My joy and passion is in reading and I hope to bestow some of this passion on you throughout this school year. I have an open-door policy for all parents to come and sit with their student or observe at any time. Please feel free to contact myself at email@example.comI typically respond to emails within 12 hours during the week, and 24 on the weekend. I can be reached by phone here at the school at (928) 373-4100. If it is after hours and an emergency or questions about homework you may call or text my cell at (928) 919-5935. Please if you do send a text give me your name as well as your students name.
My goal this year is to push your child and have him or her explorer the content allows them to reflect and communicate with their peers. There will be signs of frustration and at times they think I am being mean. I assure you that I will be pushing your child and helping them grow. Conversations and exploring text analytically and critically are the main skills we are working toward this year.
I do want to take this time to inform you on a few policy and expectations that I have in my classroom.
ü I will be assigning homework nightly AR reading for at least 20 minutes.
ü We will be using Accelerated Reader to help improve reading comprehension and to hopefully build a love of reading.
ü We will not have summative grade this year
ü Formative assessments will 60% percent of your child’s grade
ü Course work and homework will be worth 40% of your child’s grade
ü I will do my best to have grades updated weekly please use ParentVue to check your child’s grades.
Please if you have any other questions or would like to set up a time to speak with me about concerns or questions that you or your child have please do so.
Thank you and I look forward to a wonderful school year,
