In 2003, the Arizona School Facilities Board approved of the contruction of Gary A. Knox Elementary School.
Our school is named after Dr. Gary A. Knox who was the superintendent of the Crane School District from 1987-2004.  Dr. Knox had a lasting impact not only on Crane Schools but on all of the students in Arizona schools.  While superintendent, he recognized the injustices present in the Arizona school finance system and championed an effort to correct those injustices.  He became the leader of a group of school districts that fought at the legislature for an equitable school finance system so that students in Crane and throughout the state would all have a meaningful opportunity to learn.  The lawsuit bearing the name of the Crane School District asked for Arizona to provide programs and funding for at-risk students throughout the state.  He was fearless in his support for school finance reform.
